DORCHESTER CENTER FOR THE ARTS PROGRAMS AND EVENTS
The Dorchester Center for the Arts (DCA) is coordinating a trip to the Outstanding Dreams Farm, a small Maryland Alpaca Farm, in Preston, MD on Monday, April 9, 2012. The focus of the farm is to produce quality alpacas and yarn at a reasonable price. Participants will have the opportunity to sink their hands into the incredible softness and warmth of the Alpaca fibers and learn about the benefits of alpaca farming. There will also be sufficient time to browse through the store which currently sells yarn, rovings, raw fleece, as well as finished garments & stuffed animals, blankets, and gloves.
Participants will need to meet at the Dorchester Center for the Arts no later than 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 9 to carpool or caravan to the Farm by 11:00 a.m. The cost is $4.00 per person. Pre-registration is needed, and for more information, call 410-228-7782.
Creative Crafting with Paper, Taught by Donna Landgraf
Community members are invited to discover the fun of paper crafting in this six-week class that will explore handmade cards, boxes and treasures. With some creative crafting tools, colorful papers, fun embellishments, and tips, students will create crafts to admire and share.
A six-week session will be offered on Tuesday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to noon beginning April 10. Fees are $25 for members; $65 for non-members; and a $15 supply fee is payable to the instructor.

Mosaic Madness - Paisley Pattern Print for a Textured Tabletop, Taught by Patti Logan
Students will create a unique paisley pattern for a garden table top. In this class for beginner and intermediate levels, participants will learn mosaic techniques and cut, adhere and grout their piece.
The class will be held Friday, April 20 and April 27 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. and students must attend both nights to complete the mosaic tabletop. The fee is $65 for all and all supplies and the table are included.
SEEing Your Way to Better Pictures, Taught by Tim Poly
This workshop will give students the fundamental information and insights needed to create more powerful photos. Students will use their eyes, heart and mind as they explore the foundations of photography as a visual language and build a new set of skills to communicate in that language. Students will discover how to improve their photos of people, architecture, flowers, pets and landscapes. Instruction will be provided to learn how to access online photo editing programs that are free and easy to use along with many take home resources to keep photography skills growing.
This one-day session will be held Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Costs are $60 members, $100 non-members, and students must bring a digital camera that allows for manual control.
Fabulous & Fun Knitting for Beginners and Beyond - Taught by Windy Karpavage
From start to finish students will create projects and no experience is necessary.
Participants will learn how to knit and finish a project of their choice using Noni patterns (see www.nonipatterns.com). Prices vary depending on project selection, $100 - $200/project.
Classes begin on April 4 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and will run for six weeks. Fees are
$75 members, $125 non-members, and a supply fee is payable to the instructor.
Your Life Stories into Print - Taught by Carol Feierabend
In this workshop, participants will use photographs to draw roadmaps of their lives. Each person will start with a handful of photos from their personal albums and create text to go with them. Sessions include making a memory map, learning techniques to stimulate the process of writing, learning how to enliven your stories, and gentle critiquing. Students will design, edit and print their book. The finished product will be two copies of a professionally printed booklet with pictures and text. Writing experience is not necessary. General knowledge of grammar and basic punctuation needed. Class size is limited to six participants.
Carol Feierabend is an award-winning author placing first in the memoir writing and creative non-fiction divisions at the Kansas Writer Association. She has been a puppet designer, artist-in-residence for the state of Vermont, teacher and tutor.
The class will run for eight weeks beginning Wednesday, April 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The fees are $95 for DCA members; $135 for non-members and a $10 supply fee is payable to the instructor.
CELEBRATE DRAWING DURING THE MONTH OF APRIL AT THE DCA!
Studio One in April will be devoted to Draw On! and DCA is looking for community -- cont --
participation in creating a wall mural.
Draw On! is a community festival introduced by The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut, in 2006 to bring together people of all ages through the simple act of drawing.
DCA is asking the community to help create a mural. Contributions can be as simple as springtime flowers or as complex as a self-portrait. Participants are invited to stop in during normal business hours to work on the project.
APRIL IN THE GALLERIES
The Dorchester Center for the Arts is presenting in the main galleries in April, the works of Stephanie Nadolski: Mixed Media Monotypes, and Paintings; Martin Owino, Batik Artist, and Craig L. Vernon, Master Woodturner. The show will run Thursday, April 5 through Saturday, April 28 and is sponsored by Wallace and Associates.
An Artists’ Reception will be held on Saturday, April 14, from 6-8 p.m. with light refreshments and live music by Baroque Jam.
